Health Care

When an individual, business, or industry lists the criteria of what they require of a community they will always include quality health care.
Cherokee County is home to a wide variety of well-trained, certified, and caring health care professionals representing many medical specialties and sub specialties.
Individuals whose health care needs may vary from dental work, a new pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses, the services of a chiropractor, physical rehabilitation, counseling services for mental or dependency problems, a family physician, a medical specialist, long term medical care, etc., will be able to find a local health care provider.
Local retirement living centers, with graduated levels of living assistance, are available and affordable. There are also local providers of home health care services for the elderly or disabled who wish to remain in their own homes.
Upstate Carolina Medical Center, Cherokee County's primary health care provider, does its part in meeting the health care needs of the community. It is a convenient, accessible, and caring 125-bed acute care medical/surgical hospital staffed with approximately 300 professional staff and 90 physicians.
Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Upstate Carolina Medical Center offers a wide array of diagnostic services using advanced technology and a caring touch. Services include: mother-baby care, surgical services, cardiopulmonary care, 24-hour emergency services and transport, lab and radiology services, community outreach, diabetes management, and industrial health services.
UCMC reaches beyond its hospital walls and is an active partner in the life of the Cherokee County community. It provides time and money to support local charitable organizations. Approximately $2.6 million of medical services per year are provided for indigent patients. With an annual average payroll of $8.5 million, it is one of the area's larger employers.
In order to provide the best and affordable health care for everyone, individual health care professionals and organizations are cooperating to provide quality care for all. Two other health care facilities that work with local physicians and Upstate Carolina Medical Center are Mary Black Memorial Hospital (MBMH) and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS).
MBMH is a 226-bed acute care facility on the east side of Spartanburg, SC, providing general health care services for the newborn and elderly. Services include a convenient urgent care center, in-house and outpatient physical rehabilitation services, and a geripsychiatric unit. With a panel of over 200 physicians in its physician-hospital (PHO), Mary Black is recognized as a leader in managed care contracting.
SRHS is a regional primary and tertiary care provider. Known for its state-of-the-art heart center, neonatal care and new outpatient services facility, SRHS provides numerous health care services with a strong community outreach program which focuses on Wellness for Life.
