Arts & Culture

The soul of any community can be found in the civic volunteers that look to the theatre and music as a way of providing meaningful experiences for local citizens—young and old. The Gaffney Little Theatre presents five outstanding plays each year for the people of Cherokee County and the Upstate area. One play is presented by the Gaffney Youth Theatre.

For information on how you can help the Gaffney Little Theatre, call 489-4589. Various membership options are available for those who wish to help financially. For those who wish to share their time an talents, backstage or on-stage, jobs can be found. Whether a lighthearted musical or a serious drama, a night at the Theatre is always a treat. Please plan to participate in the experience—on-stage, backstage, in the audience, or as a financial backer.

The Arts Council of Cherokee County and Limestone College was organized in 1976 to develop a school and community music and dance enrichment program. Groups brought to the community include opera and ballet companies on tour, the Fred Warring and Woody Herman Orchestras, Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass, and the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps Bands.

Any individual or business that is interested in becoming active in this endeavor can call Limestone College at 489-7151 for further information.

Summer festivities, for over twenty years in July, have included Gaffney's nationally known Peach Festival. Western concerts, beach music, contemporary Christian music, parades, craft fairs, and the list goes on. The Peach Festival is an event that people, from the Upstate of South Carolina and beyond, look forward to each year.
